It is much better to take care of any required paperwork a few weeks before your due date instead of trying to remember your insurance information between contractions.

Grab some rubber bands if you want to keep wearing your favorite jeans through your pregnancy. A neat trick is to take a heavy rubber band and put it through the buttonhole in your jeans. Attach both ends of the rubber band to the button and voila, extra space. Wear longer shirts over the jeans to hide the rubber band.

Make sure that the prenatal vitamin you take during your pregnancy contains the recommended amount of folic acid. This essential vitamin helps to prevent the occurrence of neural tube defects like spina bifida and plays a significant role in tissue development and cell formation in your growing baby, as well.

When trying to get pregnant, remember that it can take up to a year for this to happen so do try not to stress too much if it does not happen straight away. The stress can negatively impact on your attempts even further. However, if you are over 35, and have been trying for more than six months, seek the advice of your doctor.

Brush and floss your teeth daily while pregnant. This is, of course, an important tip to follow even when not pregnant. It becomes even more important during pregnancy. Pregnancy can make a woman prone to greater problems related to gingivitis and gum disease. Not taking proper care of your teeth can escalate these problems. Brushing and flossing twice a day will help to alleviate them.

If you want to maintain your weight or fitness level during pregnancy, then you should start working out months before you try to conceive. If your body is already accustomed to the physical demands of your workout, then continuing that workout while pregnant is far less likely to stress your growing baby.

Many people want to keep their pregnancy hidden from people for the first three months. It is better to choose one person that you can confide in. This will allow you to get release from everything that is going on in your life and talk about what is bothering you.

Listening to your body is almost as important as listening to your doctor. Pushing yourself too hard during pregnancy is asking too much of your body and not being fair to your baby. The boss, husband, in-laws or whoever else may be demanding of your resources need to take a back seat so that you can take care of yourself and your baby.

Nine months is a long time when you are pregnant with your first or second or even third child. Make the most of this time of intense and remarkable changes by remembering to practice the tips and tricks which you have just read. A healthy pregnancy is a perfect starting point for the journey to motherhood.

Tips To Help Your Chronic Back Pain

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

To say that living with back pain is a challenge is an understatement. When you’re dealing with chronic pain, just making it through the day can be difficult. But as hard to live with as back pain can be, there are plenty of things that can be done to help. Here are some tips to get you started.

One of the absolute best ways to strengthen your back is to keep it flexible. Yoga, Pilates or Tai Chi are some methods that will help you. Two to four times a week, alternated with strength training will put you in tip top shape. Give it some time and soon you will hopefully forget the pain that had you lying on the couch.

If you have chronic back pain, a trip to the doctor is in order. Many people avoid the doctor thinking that the only options are surgery or long-term medications. This might be the case, but it might not. Today there are many different treatment options, and yours might be as simple as lifestyle changes. Your doctor can point you in the right direction.

The rest posture known as the 90-90 position can help relieve back pain. The sufferer lies prone with their feet elevated, such as on a chair. The hips and knees should be bent at right angles, (thus the “90-90″ designation) with the knees falling loosely apart from each other. This position provides complete relaxation of the muscles commonly associated with back pain, especially in the lower back.

Indulge in cardiovascular activities often. Cardiovascular activities are a great help towards a healthier body, and give great conditioning to the joints and muscles, helping to prevent back pain. While there are other great exercises out there, cardiovascular workouts put much less strain on your back muscles, therefore offering an optimal exercise for those that experience back pain.

Take pain medication when you first start feeling pain. Some people tend to ignore back pain, thinking that it will just go away, but the truth is that you’ll be relieved of the pain sooner if you take medication when you first start feeling it. Don’t wait to take your medicine; feel relief that much sooner.

To avoid back pain later, always remember to stretch your muscles before and after strenuous physical activity. If you need to bend and lift a lot at work, make sure to stretch your muscles and lift with your legs, not your back. Do this to avoid future back pain.

If you are experiencing back pain and have tried at home remedies without results, see your doctor. You should not allow your body to remain in pain for more than one or two days without seeking help. Your back pain could be the result of a serious injury, and the sooner you treat it, the sooner you will see relief. Waiting too long might result in a permanent injury that cannot be fixed.

Even with these excellent tips, living with back pain isn’t going to be as easy as living without it. However, these tips will make your suffering much more manageable. If you apply the advice in this article and work to take care of your back, you may see incredible results in the long run.

Taking the Smell Out Of Micro-Fiber

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

The odor of any type of smoke — cigarette, cigar, pipe or perhaps a nearby fire — can linger inside for lengthy amounts of time, sometimes several weeks or even months following the smoke source being removed. On fabric, such as the micro-fiber furnishings in your house, getting rid of smoke smells can be challenging without destroying the colour or appearance of the furniture. You will find several techniques you can use. Begin with the least expensive and many convenient techniques before upgrading towards the other available choices.

1. Vinegar can occasionally help remove difficult smells.

Place small bowls of cider vinegar within the room in which the offensive smoke smells came from. Vinegar can reduce the effects of the odor of smoke.

2. Test a little part of the surface, ideally within an area that can’t be seen easily, and wipe the micro-fiber material with the use of a cloth wet with vinegar. Return to it later to examine area for discolorations or damage. If there’s none, make use of the cloth around the other areas of the micro-fiber to get rid of the smell.

3. Allow the vinegar dry for around three hrs. If there’s still a telltale scent, move onto the following option.

Baking Soda

1. Sprinkle a box of baking soda evenly over the top of micro-fiber. Rub it in and watch it sit for about a half-hour. You shouldn’t be afraid to make use of the whole box.

2. Vacuum in the baking soda in the surface, every crack and area of the micro-fiber surface. Leave the area for a short while and go back to try to and smell the smoke if it is still on the micro-fiber.

3. Re-apply the baking soda onto to the micro-fiber if you see a decrease in the effectiveness of the odor of the smoke within the fabric. Use another entire box and repeat the steps above. If there’s still an obvious odor, try the next solution.

Fresh Lemon Juice

1. The scent of fresh lemon juice might help remove persistent smells.

Test a little part of the fabric with fresh lemon juice. If there’s no discoloration or damage, the same process you did with the vinegar but use the fresh lemon juice this time..

2. Squeeze the juice in the lemon onto a little towel and wipe the top of micro-fiber.

3. Permit the fiber to dry for around three hrs and go back to the area to ascertain if some of it’s been effective. Otherwise, spray the micro-fiber surface with fabric refresher spray.

The Top Ten List Most Improved Rivers In England And Wales

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

There is now a list of the 10 most-improved rivers in England and Wales that is recently released by the Environment Agency or EA. This list would include the River Wandle in London, the River Nar in Norfolk as well as the River Darent in Kent. This is actually a surprise as River Wandle was officially declared a sewer in the 1960s. The rivers have been declared to be the healthiest for over 20 years and this is due to the work they have had with farmers, businesses and water companies to reduce pollution and improve water quality and it all paid off. The reductions in volume of water taken by industry and farmers also benefited the river habitats.

Other rivers that included the list are the River Thames in London and River taff in south Wales. One of the shocking things about Riverr Thames being healthy is because it was declared biologically dead in the 1950s. River Taff on the other hand once ran black with coal dust but it is now the leading site for fishing competitions. More of them would include the River Stour in Worcestershire and the Mersey Basin. River Stour was previously famed for the rainbow-coloured dyes that flowed into it from carpet manufacturers and the Mersey Basin was once called “an affront to a civilised society by the former government minister Michael Heseltline.

What EA did was to review thousands of licences that cover the removal of water and they are amending those that have resulted to the environmental damages. Taking River Darent in Kent as an example of that action. About 35 million fewer litres per day have been taken than 20 years ago. This increased river flows and helps support larger populations of wildlife like the brown trout and pike. But this is not yet the peak of the goal as there is more to be done. Plans to transform a further 9,500 miles of rivers in England and Wales by 2015 is the recent goal which is the equivalent distance between the UK and Australia.

Geoff Bateman, the EA’s head of fisheries and biodiversity, said rivers had benefited naturally from the reduction in heavy industry, but also from a better understanding of how to balance the needs of people with the environment. The exact listings of the ten rivers are: The River Wandle, south-west London; River Thames, London; River Wear, County Durham; River Stour, Worcestershire; The River Darent, Kent; The River Dee, Wales and north-west England; River Nar, Norfolk; River Taff, south Wales; River Stour, Dorset and; The Mersey Basin, north-west England.

Findings About European Men Origins Challenge By New Study

Friday, August 26th, 2011

We originally were taught that European men were descended from farmers who migrated from the Near East around 5,000 to 10,000 years ago. There is now a new study that challenges this theory. The previous findings of a research showing genetic signatures of the farmers is now being challenged that it was displaved of Europe’s indigenous hunters instead. The research leans towards the thought that most of the males in Europe have been traced back to line descending from stone-age hunters. Although needs more work, it is a new discovery and this has been published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B which composed of an international team.

The find shows that the modern humans have first lived in Europe from around 40,000 years ago in the Palaeilithic Period. They were beleived to have survived 20,00 years ago of the Ice Age through the means of retreating to warm refuges in the south of the continent and then went back and expanded to northern Europe as the ice already melted. A few thousand years after however, there was a momentous cultural change that underwent by these hunter-gatherers that settled in the continent. Farmers then spread westwards from the area to Turkey which started a new economy as well as a way of life. There now a debate as to the extent of descent from where modern Europeans are descended from and it has yet to be concluded.

They focused more on the Y chromosome on the latest study which is a package of DNA that is passed down unchanged from father to son. It showed in the study that the Y chromosomes carried by the people of today are classified into different types of lineage that would seem to reflect their place of origin. European men carry R-M269 DNA type for more than 100 million in number. It is found most common in westenr Europe that reaches 90% of Spain, Ireland and Wales. When the Neolithic Period came, the momentous cultural change in Europe started. There is still no conclusion to study and much more is needed to make it definitive. One thing is for sure though, we surely came from a race but the question is who.

15 Minutes Of Exercise Can Increase Life Expectancy

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

If you want to boost your life expectancy by three years and cut down your death risk by 14%, you have to at least excercise 15 minutes each day which was what a Taiwan research suggested. This is what experts in The Lancet would say as the least amount of activity any grown adult can do get any health benefit. This is about hallf the quantity which usually recommended for people in the UK. Another study in the UK focuses more on couch potato’s lifestyle and it suggests taht for hours of TV they have a day, it cuts 5 years from their lives and this was stated in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Currently, the government is enforcing and updating its exercise advice so that Britons would hava a more flexible approach on the recommended exercise activity per week. They are aiming to get adults to have 150 minutes of activity per week and the approach can be different everytime depending on the preference of the person, it can be a couple of 10-minute exercises every day or 20 to 30 minutes of exercise sessions that could go on for five times a week. The advice they are giving still stands but being able to start the minimum 15 minutes suggest would be a great way to do so especially those with little or no exercise being done.

The recent study in Taiwan was based on over 400,000 Taiwanese and it showed that 15 minutes per day or 90 minutes per week of moderate exercise like brisk walking could add to three years to the lifespan of the person. As the people went on with their daily routine, there was a finding that when did more exercise and had an interest in doing it. It would then lead to them adding up their quota and this is what was found out by researchers from National Health Research Institutes, Taiwan, and China Medical University Hospitall. The 15 minutes of daily excercises added was able to reduce death rates of all causes by 4%.

The exercises recommended are as follows: Under-fives (once walking independently): three hours every day; Five to 18-year-olds: at least an hour a day of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity, plus muscle strengthening activities three times a week; Adults (including over 65s): 150 minutes a week of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity, plus muscle strengthening activities twice a week.

There is no harm in doing 15 minutes worth your exercise as well as believing in the theory of how it might expand life expectancy. It may even help you get your butt out of that chair or bed and start living a healthy lifestyle day by day.

New Test For Alzheimer’s: Simpler And Cheaper If Proven Conclusive

Monday, July 25th, 2011

We all know how painful it is to actually have Alzheimer’s or a loved one have this disease. It’s hard enough to handle but even harder to cope with if it is made known too late. As we all know, Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia that causes mental problems specifically on the memory, behavior and thinking of the one who has it. The development of the disease is usually slow and that is what has been making it hard to cope. You would have to struggle memory loss and all sorts of doing unthinkable things and being the loved one who would witness it is just as painful as experiencing it. The disease interferes with your daily living especially on the later stage and you would forget even to breath in the end.

Getting diagnosed for it is very expensive considering how much brain scans cost but there has been a research done recently that a blood test could possibly be done to confirm Alzheimer’s. The blood test was developed by the Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO. The good news that the blood test has done was to accurately detect the proteins that started to build up in the brain a decade or more before the actual memory losses and thinking problems start to kick in. If this was further tested and done in a larger trial, this would help simplify the testing for the disease and make it faster to find out.

With the blood test, we can detect the sticky protein called beta amyloid without doing brain scans. This was tested through 1,100 patients and this was presented at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference Last July 20, 2011 in France. It was able to identify 83% of whose brain scans had beta amyloid shown in them and it was able to rule out 85% of the people who did not have the disease. This give us one step closer into getting to use only blood test to identify Alzheimer’s and be able to get a cheaper way to get it diagnosed.

Exert Your Rights To Making A Whiplash Claim

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

People who have been victims of whiplash accidents deserve to file for whiplash compensation. This is to recompense the damage and injuries they have obtained from the accident as it will not only affect them physically, it will have an emotional impact and would cause certain losses. There are people who could make a quick recovery and there would be some whose effect of injuries would last long. Some might even loss their job, this is why it is important that you should file a claim to get compensated, thus, the compensation will also be a help for your fast recovery.

A whiplash claim is an assertion of a person who has got a whiplash injury from an accident. A whiplash injury however, is a damage of the soft tissues and bone structure of the neck that is caused by the violent jolting of the cervical spine because of the to and fro forceful movement of the body. A whiplash injury is sometimes perceived as a severe stiffness of the neck, shoulders and back that also causes back and shoulder pains.

Each year, more and more drivers sue for thousands of pounds as whiplash compensation from insurance companies because of what they have become due to these whiplash accidents. Some of the symptoms of a whiplash injury include back and shoulder pain, headache, and sometimes dizziness. In some severe cases, symptoms could include loss of memory, problem concentrating, and emotional torment.  This is why it is very important to see a physician so they could check you up and make recommendations for your treatment. Thus, the medical report that the physician is going to make will be useful to your whiplash claims.

There may be some people who could make a quick recovery and to some it may be hard to recover from a whiplash injury because of the possible losses like job loss. But if you will be given some time off from work, you could make use of your time by filing a whiplash claim. The compensation you will be getting will help you finance your recovery.

If you have obtained a whiplash injury from an accident particularly if the accident was not your fault, you may file a claim. Hire a lawyer to help you with your claim. The first thing that your lawyer will ask from you is a medical report that contains the details of your whiplash injury. Along with the medical report, you also need to write a report that describes how the accident happened and whom you have talked to right after it happened. You have to know who the party at party is, who your witnesses were and what they say about the accident, or what they have seen.

The problem with whiplash injury is that the injury marks are not obvious right after the accident, it will only show a day or two after. Another dilemma is how to make an eligible whiplash claim. If the party at fault refuses to make a pay out for the injuries and damages, you have to file a claim. Hire a compensation solicitor to help you out in making a strong claim.  This way you can be guaranteed that your injuries will be recompensed.
